AVMA Convention Lunchtime Express Connection: Saturday, July 16, 2011 at noon

July 14, 2011, Lenexa, Kan. – Ceva Animal Health offers American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Convention guests the opportunity to learn “Answers to the Questions Your Clients Won’t Ask” in the Special Programming Area on Saturday, July 16 at noon.  This event will feature three panel members and a moderator discussing how veterinarians can guide their patients and practice through the maze of new flea & tick control products that have entered the market.  The Convention program describes the event:

Answers to the Questions your Clients Won’t Ask
Your clients are wondering if they should buy one of several new generic flea and tick control products available in discount stores. Trouble is, they are not asking you for advice!  Join our panel discussion and learn:

  • How to guide your practice and clients through the maze of new flea and tick control products
  • How to ensure clients turn to you for flea and tick control products and to keep their pets free from vector-borne disease

The event is free to AVMA attendees; no registration is required.

Speakers:

Dr. Phillip McKinney is a 1971 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.  He is a partner in the Hawthorne Animal Hospital – a practice with five locations and 14 veterinarians.  Hawthorne Animal Hospital has been operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the past four years.  Dr. McKinney has special interests in inventory control and logistics associated with veterinary practice.

Dr. Mike Paul is a 1972 graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and worked in private practice in California for 27 years.  Dr. Paul was a member of the board of directors of the American Animal Hospital Association from 1991-2001, served as president of AAHA in 1999 and is currently a member of an AAHA task force to set wellness guidelines for pets.  Dr. Paul was a founding member of the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) and served as the executive director and CEO of the CAPC from 2005-2011.  Dr. Paul is currently a principal of Magpie Veterinary Consulting, through which he coaches veterinarians and advises industry on communications, compliance and practice leadership. 

Dr. Mark Setser is a 1982 graduate of Oklahoma State University with degrees in veterinary medicine and pharmacology.  He has exotic and domestic pet practices in Tulsa and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.  Dr. Setser has a special interest in an integrated approach to human and animal health as it pertains to a well-managed practice.

Moderator:

Dr. Jim Humphries is a 1977 graduate of Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  In his 25-year career in the public media, Jim has been involved in every aspect of production and management of print, radio, television and Internet communications.  He teaches media and crisis media management.  He currently heads The Veterinary News Network.  VNN is a network of veterinary reporters delivering local news reports nationwide.  He also serves as the executive director for the American Society of Veterinary Journalists.  Dr. Humphries also is executive producer for DVMedia, an award winning video production company.
